My Milky Update

Where did the last few weeks go? I’ve been meaning to write, there’s been a lot to write about but somehow the days have managed to escape me. And I don’t really have much to show for it. The school year is now in full motion which means that I just have less time. That means that I haven’t had time to work out more and I’ve been lucky to get two workouts in during the week.

For all of you who have been biting your nails with anxiety about what happened to my milk supply you can stop worrying. I found a miracle! I got a lot of suggestions, my favorite being “get more sleep”. HA! Why didn’t I think of that?!? I really should stop staying awake and tending to my baby.

Among the suggestions that I did try were:

  1. Nutritional Yeast (disgusting but there was an increased milk supply the nights I did take 2tbsp)
  2. Beer (some swear by it but I found that it only made a difference right after drinking it. So if I could just drink beer all day that would have been a good solution. Except then I probably wouldn’t make a very good mom so that kind of defeats the purpose. And American beer tastes like water that dirty feet have been soaking in. If you’ve ever had a Presidente I’m sure you’ll agree, if not, well you just can’t understand).
  3. Oatmeal (I’m not sure how much you’re supposed to have to see a difference I saw no difference)
  4. Organic Mothers Milk tea (not too much difference and it tastes like licorice –yuck!)

 

And the winner is….(insert drum roll here)…

More Milk Plus by Motherlove! Fabulous! The days I don’t take it I get about 3oz milk per pumping session, when I take it regularly I get 8pz per session! Woohooo! The lady at Sprouts who recommended it said that when she took it it was almost too much milk. I chuckled to myself and thought “how could it possibly be too much milk?” take this for a few days in a row and it is almost too much milk. So much that I had to pump on the weekends between Annabelles nursing. I’m not sure if your body eventually gets used to it and your supply decreases but I take it every other day now and have no problem with my supply anymore. I also haven’t been working out as much or as hard and I haven’t been on any restrictive diets.

So there you go. The mystery of milk supply has been solved. Life can go on without the added stress of not having enough milk which will surely stress you out and decrease your milk supply.
