Oh no! Did I just waste breast milk?!?
If you pump or have pumped you know that wasting breastmilk is a no no and when it does go to waste it brings tears to my over exhausted eyes. I’ve done many things due to lack of sleep but the worst has got to be pumping without putting bottles onto the pump… feeling warm wet something running down my leg and thinking “did I really just pee on myself? I didn’t even do that when I was pregnant” and no, no problem with my bladder, I just started pumping without putting bottles onto the pump, and then come the tears over the lost breast milk and the fact that I’m exhausted enough to do something that stupid. that’s happened twice.
And then this morning I wake up to find two full bottles of breast milk sitting on the kitchen counter from when I pumped last night. Panic! That’s a whole bottle worth of milk! 2 seconds later I’m on the internet, looking for anything that says I don’t have to throw it away. And sure enough I come across this website that gives me the good news, it’s still good! Fascinating stuff if you’re a breast feeding mom. There’s even a little chart to stick on your fridge, because if you’re a new mom there’s not enough space in your brain to store all that info. So far this has been one of the most useful sites I’ve found. =) So I guess it’s a good thing I left that milk sitting out overnight!
