Medicine with a side of Corn

I’m not a fan of un-natural food like products that are made in a lab. I don’ t think they have any reason to be in our bodies or on our plates. High fructose corn syrup is one of my biggest pet peeves, especially all of the ads claiming that there’s nothing wrong with it and that it’s actually healthy because it’s corn. NO, NO, NO!!!

Our bodies aren’t designed to digest things made in a lab, they’re designed to digest real food. HFCS has been found to contain mercury and other unsafe contaminants that aren’t regulated by the FDA. I guess the corn industry forgot to mention that in their ad campaign. For more info on why to avoid HFCS read this article by Dr. Mark Hyman one of the leading experts on health and nutrition.

To make a long story short, the reason I’m so mad at corn syrup this time is that it reared its ugly head somewhere I really didn’t expect it. Infants acetaminophen!! Seriously?!? I’m not a fan of using medicine in the first place and would much rather use a natural or homeopathic remedy but I have used infants  acetaminophen a few times when Annbelles teething pain just wouldn’t be calmed with natural remedies or when her fever was so high and she was screaming so much that she scared me (turns out she had croup).

The next time you reach for that acetaminophen remember the HFCS and try something else first. Skin to skin works pretty well for most of our crying woes or just holding her and rocking her and being ok with not getting any sleep for babies sake. I leave you with this quote from Dr. Sears for all of the times we’ve been scared by a fever:

“Many parents have a misconception that fevers are a bad thing and a sign that there is some serious underlying illness. This simply is not true. Fever is a normal and healthy response of the body to an illness. The body’s immune system releases chemicals that raise the body temperature. This is part of the normal infection-fighting process.

If you have any natural or homeopathic remedies for fevers or flus or colds or teething please PLEASE share them, the more we know the better off we are!
